The Oloisukut Community Conservancy is a 50,000 acre area of  community lands which boarders the World famous Maasai Mara Game reserve to the North in Transmara District Rift Valley Province. Oloisukut Conservancy is an intriguing new conservation concept on land-use. Prior to 2010 the Oloisukut Conservancy was populated by rural homesteads and grazing was uncontrolled with large herds of cattle, sheep and goats roaming freely. There was evident overgrazing and the integrity of the ecosystem compromised. After many meetings with the local Maasai members it was agreed that a new community conservation vision should be tried to address environmental and land use aspects of  land and to add value to income, conservation of environmental goods and services and livelihoods. A  combination of wildlife conservation, tourism and sustainable grazing patterns would create a win-win situation for both the Maasai landowners and the wildlife of the entire Mara Eco-system.

The income generated from conservation will give the landowners a reliable and dependable alternative source of income. The management of the Conservancy comprises a board consisting of representatives from the Maasai landowners , tourism partners, Kenya wildlife service and other development partners who have been instrumental in supporting the Conservancy set up.
The management, together with the elders, facilitated the removal of homesteads and the reduction of domestic livestock and reduced herd sizes within the core conservation areas, in particular diurnal refuge areas for predators were left completely free of human and  livestock. As a result, the Conservancy has once again become a haven for big cats and part of the annual wildebeest migration route. The Conservancy now offers some of East Africa's finest wild Game viewing areas. The area boasts of a high density of lions and the big five except the Rhino and over 300 different species of birds.

Tourism in the Conservancy is carried out in extremely controlled manner, a move that is aimed at maximizing the client wilderness experience and minimizing environmental impact. There is restrictions as to the number of vehicles permitted to view an animal at one time. The cap is at only three vehicle with a distance of at least 25 meters being maintained. Night games Drives are permitted as well as guided game walks.
